Open forum scheduled Thursday to discuss arming campus police

The University of Iowa will hold an open forum in Room C20 of the Pomerantz Center from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, on a proposal to arm campus police officers. Organized by the Shared Governance Council, the forum is open to UI faculty, staff and students as well as members of the public.

Director of UI Public Safety Chuck Green and UI General Counsel Marc Mills will make a presentation at the start of the forum and then answer questions. Professor Steve McGuire of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the College of Education will preside.

UI President Sally Mason and her counterparts at the University of Northern Iowa and Iowa State University have been asked to provide the Board of Regents, State of Iowa with their recommendations on this proposal by Sept. 10.
