Make-A-Wish children will attend Iowa/Syracuse football game Sept. 8

A group of 17 eastern Iowa children in the Make-A-Wish program will be part of  a traditional UI football weekend on Saturday, Sept. 8, as part of the University of Iowa Alumni Association's S.T.A.T Ambassadors' Game Day event at the Iowa vs. Syracuse football game.

The event will begin at approximately 5 p.m. with a tailgate party at the UI Field House, North Gym. The children and their families will have the chance to play games with Herky and meet members of the cheerleading squad.

S.T.A.T. ("Students Today, Alumni Tomorrow") Ambassadors are student representatives of the University of Iowa and the University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA). The S.T.A.T Ambassadors and University of Iowa Sports Marketing have worked with the Make-A-Wish Foundation to organize this 13th-annual Game Day.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a national, nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Major sponsors of Game Day include the UIAA, S.T.A.T. Ambassadors, UI Athletics, Aero Rental, Cookies by Design, Hy-Vee and Old Capital Screen Printers. Other sponsors include the Iowa Memorial Union Catering, Sweets and Treats, University Book Store and Hawk Shop, and Whitey's Ice Cream.

The event is not open to the general public, but media representatives are invited to attend all portions of the event.
