Girls On The Run hosts 'Ladies' Luxury Day'

Girls On The Run of Johnson County will host "Ladies' Luxury Day," an afternoon of pampering for women from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at hotel Vetro in downtown Iowa City.

"Ladies' Luxury Day" is the inaugural fundraiser to benefit the local council of Girls On The Run, a volunteer-based, nonprofit organization that has partnered with the University of Iowa Division of Recreational Services to bring after-school programs to 3rd- through 5th-grade girls in the Iowa City community.

Women are invited to indulge in services and products offered by local vendors including Groovy Katz Hair Salon, LaJames, Arbonne, Bagolitas, Pampered Chef, Sensaria, Silpada, Tastefully Simple, Uppercase Living and Judy Nauseef Landscape Design. Appetizers and desserts will be provided by Catered by Charlotte; Brown-Forman distributors will offer wine tasting from the "Little Black Dress" label; and Fair Grounds will host a coffee tasting. Music will be provided by oboist Mark Weber of the UI School of Music faculty. A raffle will be held for donated items from the Marriott in Coralville, New Life Fitness, the Soap Opera, The Mansion, Discerning Eye, and Hands Jewelers, in addition to donations from vendors present at the event.

Tickets for "Ladies' Luxury Day" are $20 on the day of the event and can be purchased at the door. RSVP is requested but not required at rungirls_rose@yahoo.com.

Proceeds will help to provide educational materials and scholarships to girls in need.

Girls on the Run of Johnson County is associated with Girls on the Run International. The organization's mission is to develop girls' self-respect and healthy lifestyles through physical activity. At the conclusion of their current 12-week program, participating girls will take part in the Wondergirl 5K running event Saturday, Dec. 1, in City Park in Iowa City. The running event will be open to the public.
