MEDIA ADVISORY: College of Public Health groundbreaking is Oct. 12

WHAT: Groundbreaking at the site of the University of Iowa College of Public Health Academic Building

WHEN: 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12

WHERE: The College of Public Health building will be constructed on the existing UI International Center site. Parking is available in the Newton Road Parking Ramp, and the groundbreaking site can be accessed via the pedestrian bridge over U.S. Highway 6. WHO: Scheduled speakers include:

-- U.S. Rep. Dave Loebsack

-- Iowa Sen. Robert Dvorsky

-- Robert Downer, Board of Regents, State of Iowa

-- Sally Mason, president of the University of Iowa

-- Lynette Marshall, president of the UI Foundation

-- James Merchant, dean of the UI College of Public Health

-- Representative for U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin

University officials, state and local leaders, and invited guests will gather on Oct. 12 at the site of future construction of the UI College of Public Health Academic Building. The new facility will consolidate the college's academic, student-related, and administrative functions. Construction of the $47.7 million building is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2008, with project completion during the summer of 2010.
