Northwest Iowa Community College students eligible for 2 Plus 2 Transfer Plan

Students at Northwest Iowa Community College (NCC) in Sheldon are now eligible to participate in the University of Iowa's 2 Plus 2 Guaranteed Graduation Plan for transfer students.

Under the 2 Plus 2 plan, UI advisors will help NCC students select the right courses to receive an Associate of Arts degree in two years at NCC and successfully transfer to the UI, where they can earn a bachelor's degree in just two more years, guaranteed.

NCC serves more than 1,200 students on its northwest Iowa campus, which serves students from 5 of Iowa's 99 counties, including Sioux, Osceola, Cherokee, Lyon, and O'Brien counties. The school offers more than 30 academic programs in the arts and sciences, business, health, computers, trade and technology.

The addition of NCC to the 2 Plus 2 program marks the university's continuing efforts to make the program accessible to students at all Iowa community colleges. The UI welcomed more than 1,000 new transfer students from Iowa community colleges throughout 2006-07.

Earlier this year, the university also announced a new $1,000 scholarship for incoming 2 Plus 2 students with the highest grade-point averages. Overall, the 2 Plus 2 program is designed to help ease the transition between schools.

Community college students are encouraged to enroll in the 2 Plus 2 plan during their first year of community college in order to benefit most from the degree-planning assistance of Iowa's 2 Plus 2 advisors. High school students headed to college also are encouraged to investigate the plan's potential to save them time and money.

In addition to early Iowa advising, 2 Plus 2 participants enjoy access to UI library and career-planning resources and discounted admission to select UI cultural and athletic events with their UI student ID.

The 2 Plus 2 plan is currently available to NCC students in about 15 majors, including business, psychology, and social work. The UI will add all Iowa community colleges and more Iowa majors to the plan in the near future.
