UI Nonprofit Center Sets Meetings To Discuss State Guidelines

A series of workshops featuring nonprofit management experts from the University of Iowa's College of Law and Henry B. Tippie College of Business will be held around the state this summer to help staff and board members of nonprofit organizations understand state guidelines and provide strong service to the public.

The guidelines, "Iowa Principles and Practices for Charitable Nonprofit Excellence," will assist nonprofit organizations in management practices, ethical conduct, and public accountability. Date and location information for the seminars is as follows:

--June 5, Ottumwa, Indian Hills Community College.
--June 6, Creston, Southwestern Community College.
--June 12, Sheldon, Northwest Community College.
--June 13, Spencer, Iowa Lakes Community College.
--June 19, Fort Dodge, Iowa State University Extension Office.
--June 25, Mason City, North Iowa Area Community College.

Leading the meetings will be Richard Koontz, director of the Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center; Willard "Sandy" Boyd, founder of the INRC and law professor specializing in nonprofit law; and Jude West, co-director of the INRC and professor of management and organizations in the Tippie College of Business with expertise in nonprofit governance and management.

Those who attend the workshops will learn more about the task force recommendations that were focused particularly in the areas of improving the management effectiveness and governance of nonprofit organizations, making Iowans more aware of nonprofits and their role in building a community and improving the economy, and encouraging Iowans to donate more money and time to nonprofits. The report also encourages greater cooperation between business, government and nonprofit sectors

The Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center is an interdisciplinary program of the University of Iowa devoted to research and education about Iowa's charitable nonprofit organizations in collaboration with other Iowa educational and charitable nonprofit organizations.
