May 7, 2007 Old Capitol Restoration Project Wins National Award The University of Iowa project that restored the historic Old Capitol following the fire in 2001 won the Honor Award for Excellence in Architecture for Restoration and Preservation from the Society for College and University Planning (SCUP). Certificates for the award, which is the highest given by the society and is associated with the American Institute of Architects and the Committee on Architecture for Education, will be presented during SCUP's Annual Conference and Idea Marketplace July 7-11 in Chicago. Gary Nagle, AIA, architect in UI facilities management, was UI project manager and Brian Keating, engineer IV, and Willie Wilford, engineering tech II in UI facilities management, were the UI construction managers. Bradd Brown, AIA, OPN Architects, Cedar Rapids, and David Fixler, AIA, Einhorn Yaffee Prescott, Albany, N.Y., were the architectural firms on the project.
