Jones Named To Board Of Accrediting Commission

Phillip E. Jones, vice president for student services and dean of students at the University of Iowa, has been appointed to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

The association was founded in 1895 as one of six regional institutional accreditors in the United States. The HLC accredits degree-granting educational institutions in Arkansas, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, New Mexico, South Dakota, Wisconsin, West Virginia and Wyoming.

In his two-year term as a board member, Jones will help formulate policy for the HLC, assist in planning, oversee financial matters, be accountable for accrediting decisions, connect with HLC members, and establish, clarify and articulate the mission of the commission. The board will also select and support the HLC executive director.
