UI To Confer Degrees In Commencement Exercises

The University of Iowa will confer degrees on more than 4,412 graduates during commencement ceremonies that begin Thursday, May 10, when UI Executive Vice President and Provost Michael Hogan will award degrees to graduates of the UI College of Pharmacy at Hancher Auditorium.

On Friday, May 11, Hogan will confer degrees on graduates of the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine, and Vice President for Legal Affairs and General Counsel Marc Mills will confer degrees on graduates of the Henry B. Tippie School of Management (MBA program). Both commencements are at Hancher, as well.

Interim President Gary Fethke will confer degrees at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences commencement in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Saturday, May 12.

Doors at both commencement venues, Hancher and Carver-Hawkeye, open an hour before the ceremonies.

The complete commencement schedule is listed below.

Thursday, May 10:

--College of Pharmacy: 10 a.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 107. Degrees will be conferred by Hogan.

Friday, May 11:

--Tippie School of Management (MBA program): 10 a.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 171. Degrees will be conferred by Mills.

--UI Carver College of Medicine: 7:30 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 163. Degrees will be conferred by Hogan.

Saturday, May 12:

--College of Liberal Arts and Sciences: 9 a.m., Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Number of degrees to be conferred: 1,964. Degrees will be conferred by Fethke.

--Henry B. Tippie College of Business: 9 a.m. Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 530. Degrees to be conferred by Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education Thomas R. Rocklin.

--College of Law: 1 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 199. Degrees to be conferred by Associate Provost for Faculty Susan R. Johnson.

--Graduate College: 3 p.m. (pre-processional begins at 2:55 p.m.), Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Number of degrees to be conferred: 878. Degrees to be conferred by Associate Provost William M. Reisinger.

--College of Nursing: 5 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 190. Degrees to be conferred by Vice President for Student Services and Dean of Students Phillip E. Jones.

Sunday, May 13:

--College of Engineering: 1 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 139. Degrees to be conferred by Associate Provost for Diversity Marcella David.

Friday, June 8:

--College of Dentistry: 3 p.m., Hancher Auditorium. Number of degrees to be conferred: 71. Degrees to be conferred by Hogan.

Commencement ceremonies of the following colleges are open to the public: Law; Pharmacy; Henry B. Tippie School of Management; Carver College of Medicine; Liberal Arts and Sciences; Nursing; Dentistry and Engineering. For the Henry B. Tippie College of Business commencement, guests must obtain tickets from a graduating student.

All 10 commencement ceremonies will be broadcast live on UITV, as well as streamed live over the Internet at UITV's Web site. UITV will also replay commencement ceremonies at a later date and provide archive streaming files.
