May 3, 2007 UI Burn Team Offers Health And Safety Fair For Children May 7 Staff of the Burn Treatment Center at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics will host their 14th UI Children's Hospital Health and Safety Fair for children age 5 and younger from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 7, at the Quality Inn and Suites, located at 2525 N. Dodge St. in Iowa City. The children will visit exhibits that will help them learn about bicycle safety, burn safety, proper car seat and seat belt use, dental health, dog bite prevention, and electrical safety. They can visit an ambulance to learn about emergency and 911 services. They will also receive information about fire safety, head injury prevention, healthy eating, preparing for immunizations, correct hand washing techniques, and water safety. "We organize the annual health and safety fair because it's important in helping to educate children, thereby decreasing their risk of becoming accident victims," said Kelly Markey, a staff nurse in the Burn Treatment Center at UI Hospitals and Clinics. "The younger they are when we teach children about these topics, the better. It is also a nice reminder for the adults in their lives." To register for the Health and Safety Fair, go online to http://www.uihealthcare.com/burn. For more information, contact either Kelly Markey at kelly-marker@uiowa.edu or 319-356-2496 or Paula Richardson at paula-k-richardson@uiowa.edu or 319-356-2496.
