Bicycle Race To Benefit Patients Of UI Children's Hospital

Local bicycle racers will test their mettle next week and support patients at University of Iowa Children's Hospital at a special weeklong cycling event.

The Roc Doc Road Rock Stage Race is a low-key, seven-day stage race beginning Monday, July 16, and concluding Sunday, July 22. The competition is designed for local bike racers.

The proceeds will be used for a Build-A-Bear party for pediatric oncology patients at UI Children's Hospital in Iowa City. The Build-A-Bear party will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Coral Ridge Mall Build-A-Bear store.

The week of road racing will include road races, time trials, and a criterium with all events held in eastern Iowa, mostly in the Iowa City area. The Two Bee Racing Club of Ely, Iowa is organizing the Roc Doc Road Rock. More than 10 other grassroots amateur Iowa bike racing clubs, in conjunction with Priority Health Pro Cycling Team of Delton, Mich., are supporting the project.
