Target Community Concert Series Presents Iowa Brass Quintet Feb. 10 At UI

The Target Community Concert Series, presented by the University of Iowa Arts Share program, will present a performance by the Iowa Brass Quintet at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, in Clapp Recital Hall on the UI campus.

The Iowa Brass Quintet is a resident faculty ensemble at the UI School of Music. Its current members are David Greenhoe and Brian Umlah, trumpets; Jeff Agrell, horn; David Gier, trombone; and John Manning, tuba. Founded in the early 1950s, the IBQ has been widely acclaimed for its artistry in the performance of music of all periods and premieres of new compositions. Information on the quintet can be found at http://www.uiowa.edu/~music/ensembles/faculty.htm

The goal of Arts Share -- http://www.uiowa.edu/artsshare/ -- is to strengthen the arts in underserved areas and to provide access to life-enriching arts experiences throughout Iowa. The program makes artists available in music, theater, dance, the visual arts and creative writing. The available activities range from workshops to ensemble coaching to concerts to lectures -- and even special, custom-designed projects.

The program also sponsors a variety of on-campus performances available to school groups from throughout the region.

The Arts Share roster includes more than 100 individual artists and ensembles, with options to fit a variety of needs and budgets. Many schools have scheduled several Arts Share artists to create a concentrated arts day, or have engaged an artist to make multiple visits, enabling their guidance of long-term projects.

Target Stores is the sponsor of the Community Concert Series.

Arts Share is the outreach program of the UI Division of Performing Arts in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the School of Music is one of the division's academic departments.
