Werner To Perform On Iowa Public Radio's 'Java Blend' Show Jan. 19

Nationally known songwriter Susan Werner will perform live Jan. 19 on the new "Java Blend" program on Iowa Public Radio. The free event begins at noon at downtown Iowa City's Java House and is open to the public.

The program originates from WSUI 910 AM and will be broadcast at a later date on Iowa Public Radio stations across the state. Werner, a native of Manchester, Iowa, will introduce her upcoming CD "The Gospel Truth," which will be released digitally Feb. 28 and on CD March 6.

Werner is a UI School of Music alumna and former WSUI/KSUI employee. The Philadelphia Daily News said of Werner: "She conquers the cabaret jazz/pop scene with sublime originals that sound like Great American Songbook classics."

Hosted by Ben Kieffer, "Java Blend" offers an eclectic mix of live music from the vibrant independent music scene, featuring artists from around the state and around the country. Kieffer will infuse the performances with lively chats to find out about the artists' music and lives.

"Java Blend" is taped at noon on Fridays before a live audience at the Java House, located at 211 E. Washington St. in downtown Iowa City. The hour is broadcast statewide multiple times on a future weekend to an estimated 50,000 Iowa Public Radio listeners. Stations include KUNI Cedar Falls/Waterloo/Cedar Rapids/Iowa City, KUNY/KRNI Mason City, KDMR Des Moines, KDUB Dubuque, WSUI Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, WOI Ames/Des Moines, KTPR Fort Dodge, KOWI Lamoni, and KWOI Carroll. The program will also be videotaped for several TV broadcasts on the UITV cable channel in the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area.
