Koontz To Succeed Boyd As Director Of Non-profit Resource Center

Richard Koontz has been named the new director of the Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center in the University of Iowa College of Law, succeeding founding director Willard "Sandy" Boyd, who will become co-chair of the center's advisory committee.

Koontz has served as coordinator of the resource center since its founding in 2000. Prior to coming to the university, he was general counsel of the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago and practiced law in Boston. An adjunct professor of law in the UI College of Law, Koontz was also the principal drafter of the Iowa Principles and Practices for Charitable Nonprofit Excellence.

"It is wonderful for the College of Law to have the strength it has in the area of nonprofit organizations," said Carolyn Jones, dean of the College of Law. "Richard's deep knowledge and extensive experience are a real foundation for the wide variety of activities and projects the Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center has undertaken."

Boyd will continue to work closely with non-profit organizations throughout the state as the co-chair of the center's advisory committee. He will also continue to serve as director of the university's Institute of Public Affairs and teach full-time in the College of Law.

Jude West, professor emeritus of management and organizations in the Tippie College of Business, will continue to serve as co-chair of the advisory committee with Boyd, and as liaison with the UI Continuing Education. Lon Moeller will continue as the center's co-director from the Tippie College of Business.

The Larned A. Waterman Iowa Nonprofit Resource Center is an interdisciplinary program of the University of Iowa devoted to research and education about Iowa's charitable nonprofit organizations in collaboration with other Iowa educational and charitable nonprofit organizations.
