UI Urban and Regional Planning Program Hosts Open House Feb. 22

The University of Iowa graduate program in Urban and Regional Planning will host an open house from 4:30 - 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, in 327 Jessup Hall.

The open house offers the opportunity to learn what planners do and what the master's degree program offers. Students, faculty and alumni will be available to answer questions and provide information about a career in urban and regional planning, and to offer an overview of the UI graduate program.

Planners are concerned with issues such as affordable housing shortages, urban sprawl, neighborhood revitalization, and traffic congestion. Areas of specialization include economic development, land use and environmental planning, housing and community development, and transportation.

Joint degrees are available with law; health management and policy; engineering; environmental health; and social work.

Students in Iowa's planning program come from all undergraduate majors, and graduates of the two-year master's program secure interesting jobs nationwide in government, private consulting firms, and non-profit organizations.
