Music And The Mind Topic On Iowa Public Radio's 'The Exchange'

Why do some songs move us while other leave us cold? Is musical talent and creativity genetic or acquired?

These musical questions and many others will be tackled Wednesday, Feb. 21, on the "Big Brain" edition of "The Exchange," Iowa Public Radio's live statewide talk show originating from WSUI 910 AM.

For the 10 a.m. broadcast from the Iowa City Public Library, host Ben Kieffer will welcome author Daniel Levitin. Levitin's new book is titled "This is Your Brain on Music: the Science of a Human Obsession," an exploration of the relationship between music and the mind and the role of melodies in shaping our lives. The broadcast event is free and open to the public.

Composer and pianist Dan Knight will also be on hand to perform live music during the program. Listeners are welcome to email their Big Brain questions about music in advance to theexchange@iowapublicradio.org.

"Big Brain," radio in search of life's little questions, is broadcast each month from the Iowa City Public Library.
