Entrepreneur Lecture Series Examines Medical Device Inventions

The Entrepreneurial Ventures Group will look at developing and marketing medical device inventions in a lecture with Dr. Matthew Howard, a University of Iowa neurosurgeon and inventor of a magnetic surgery system.

Howard's lecture, "Discovering Value: Ideas to IPO-Medical Device Inventions," begins at 4 p.m. on Feb. 15 in 2117 Medical Education Research Facility. Admission is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending should RSVP by visiting http://www.iowajpec.org or calling 319-335-1022.

Howard will discuss the development history of the magnetic surgery system he first envisioned as a medical student at the University of Virginia and that is now marketed by Stereotaxis Inc. He will explain how entrepreneurial business development transformed the idea from a sketch on a piece of paper to a highly successful medical system.

Howard has been on the faculty of the UI Carver College of Medicine since 1993, and he has also taught at the University of Washington and Washington University in St. Louis.
