Forum featuring BBC producer rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 11

An open forum featuring Suzanne Mooney, a producer for the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) in the United Kingdom, has been rescheduled for 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Room 1117, International Commons in the University Capitol Centre (UCC). The event, which is sponsored by the Council for International Visitors to Iowa Cities (CIVIC), was originally scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4 at the same time but was postponed because of inclement weather.

During the open forum, Mooney will discuss her impressions of American politics.
"It is important for Iowans to hear her speak because she will be able to tell us how the BBC views our election process," said CIVIC President Jean Lloyd-Jones. "It's always helpful to get another country's perspective."

Mooney works for the BBC Global News Division as a Special Interviews Producer for World Service News and Current Affairs. She has been examining the U.S. political system, specifically, the structure of political parties, the interplay between states and the federal government, and how U.S. politics and society respond to the challenges of globalization. During her visit, she will learn about media coverage of the election in the United States, said Lloyd-Jones.

CIVIC is sponsoring this visit as part of the U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program. CIVIC is one of two organizations in Iowa that support the Department of State's International Visitor Leadership Program, and is a community organization of volunteers serving and hosting international visitors as a means to promote international understanding on a person-to-person basis.
