Ruback named UI Health Care assistant vice president for external relations

University of Iowa Vice President for Medical Affairs Jean E. Robillard, M.D., today announced the appointment of Chad B. Ruback as assistant vice president for external relations, effective Sept. 1.

In the new position, Ruback will oversee outreach initiatives designed to enhance the relationships UI Health Care's integrated academic medical center has with key constituent groups, such as alumni, donors, physicians, community partners, legislators and health care opinion leaders. He will supervise all major operations and personnel within the external relations division of UI Health Care's Office of Marketing and Communications and the Office of Continuing Medical Education with the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.

For the past eight years, Ruback served as the Carver College of Medicine's executive director of alumni and collegiate relations, executive director of the medicine alumni society, and director of the Mini Medical School. Prior to joining the UI, he held institutional advancement leadership positions at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wis. and at Eureka College in Eureka, Ill.

"Chad's expertise will be invaluable as we continue the integration of Iowa's premier academic medical center," Robillard said. "I am extremely pleased that he has accepted this new position. His proven abilities will help to elevate our institution's stature among important external audiences."

Ruback earned an executive MBA degree from the UI Tippie College of Business and a Master of Science in Education, in educational administration and higher education, from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. He also earned a Bachelor of Science in speech communication and public relations from that university. Ruback is a frequent presenter of alumni relations, strategic communications and institutional advancement topics for the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) and the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), in which he holds professional memberships.

University of Iowa Health Care unites the Carver College of Medicine, UI Hospitals and Clinics, and University of Iowa Physicians into one academic medical center that provides exceptional patient care, medical education and research.
