UI College of Nursing Will Dedicate Montoya Research Suite Aug. 24

The University of Iowa College of Nursing will dedicate the Roberta V. and Armando F. Montoya Suite for Nursing Research, a newly renovated area on the second floor of the UI Nursing Building, at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 24.

The suite is named for the parents of Isaac Montoya, Ph.D., a clinical professor at the University of Houston College of Pharmacy. Montoya completed postdoctoral studies in health services research at the UI in 1996 and is a member of the board of visitors, a College of Nursing advisory group. Montoya will be on hand for the dedication festivities.

Prior to creation of the Montoya suite, a number of College of Nursing research teams were located in various offices across campus. The new suite provides a centralized space for staff supporting nursing faculty research initiatives, which will further research collaboration.

The suite will also house faculty-published works, as well as a number of historical medical equipment devices donated by Montoya.

Roberta V. and Armando F. Montoya were born and raised in northern New Mexico. Roberta worked as a nurse aide in a small rural hospital and went on to perform social work duties for the welfare office in northern New Mexico. According to her son, the nursing skills she gained while working at the hospital were dear to her heart and served her well in raising her seven children. Roberta passed away in 1991; Armando lives in Española, N.M.
