A renowned calligrapher in China, Huang will also present an exhibition of his recent works. The event, sponsored by the University of Iowa Center for Asian and Pacific Studies (CAPS), is free and open to the public.
His artworks are popular among Chinese calligraphy collectors. A number of his works have been displayed in famous gardens and universities. He has been published in Science Times, Beijing Jishi Magazine, the World of Healthy Living and Chinese Tea Art Culture. In addition, his work has been included in several Chinese calligraphy dictionaries, including "Chinese Calligrapher Thesaurus," "Blue Book of Chinese Contemporary Art" and "Thesaurus of Chinese Experts." He has also published a book featuring his work. Huang Liancheng from Beijing, China, will conduct a lecture and demonstration of Chinese calligraphy, an ancient art that expresses beauty in the visual aspect of words, at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 14 in Room 202 of the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center.
Huang is commissioner of the Calligraphy Committee of Chinese Yinglian Society, a member of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, vice secretary-general of the Literary and Art Federation of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, vice president of the Calligraphers Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a member of the Chinese National Art Extension Committee.
