Wal-Mart Rides For UI Children's Hospital

Patients and families of University of Iowa Children's Hospital in Iowa City will benefit from the Fourth Annual Children's Miracle Network Motorcycle Ride in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa on Saturday, Aug. 4.

The Wal-Mart Transportation Office in Mt. Pleasant is sponsoring the event, which begins at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter there.

Registration opens at 7:30 a.m., with breakfast from 8 to 10 a.m. followed by the ride. Riders can purchase T-shirts or paper Children's Miracle Network balloons with the proceeds to benefit UI Children's Hospital through Children's Miracle Network.

Last year, 47 riders participated in the event. This year's goal is to involve 100 riders and raise $1,000. Registration the day of the event is $17 per person or $27 per couple.

Riders may take either of two routes, each approximately 150 miles long. Both begin at the Wal-Mart SuperCenter in Mt. Pleasant and end at UI Children's Hospital in Iowa City.

After arriving at the hospital, riders will hear from a family that benefited firsthand from UI Children's Hospital and Children's Miracle Network. There will be other activities, including a video (time permitting).

Organizers want to thank the police departments in Fairfield, West Burlington, Burlington and Iowa City for providing a police escort and helping the riders stay safe as they raise money for this event.

For more information, call Mike Billups with the Wal-Mart Transportation Office at 319-385-5711.
