RiverFest, Riverbank Arts Fair, RiverRun Set For April 27-29 At UI
The weekend of April 27-29 at the University of Iowa is fully booked with entertainment including the 2007 RiverFest concert festival, Riverbank Arts Fair and RiverRun.
RiverFest events will begin at 5 p.m. Friday, April 27 around the River Terrace of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). Attractions include a Velcro wall, rock-climbing wall, mechanical bull and gladiator joust. Local bands Twenty Something White Guys, Jim the Mule, Fileo, The Critical Hour, and others will perform. Local food vendors -- including Abel's Catering, Marco's Grilled Cheese, Aladdin Gyros, and Craig Weir -- Concessions will be in attendance for a Taste of Riverfest.
All RiverFest events and attractions are free and open to the public. RiverFest is scheduled to run from 5 to 10 p.m. April 27 and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 28. For more information, see http://www.uiowa.edu/riverfest/index.html.
The Riverbank Arts Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 28 and 29 on the green space around Hancher Auditorium. The fair features student artists and artists across the Midwest and beyond exhibiting and selling their artwork in painting, metal, ceramics, photography, glass, woodworking, drawing, jewelry and more. The weekend will wrap up with RiverRun Sunday, April 29. RiverRun is an annual 5K and 10K in which participants can run, walk, or wheelchair. The run starts at 9 a.m. and the Children's 50-Yard Hawkeye Hustle will start at 10:30 a.m. The courses are USA Track and Field certified and sanctioned. Proceeds from the 2007 race will benefit Uptown Bill's Small Mall of Iowa City. UI assistant wrestling coach Dan Gable has been announced as this year's dignitary.
Race day registration will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. in the IMU Main Lounge. Individual registration from April 23-28 must be completed in person at the University Box Office in the IMU.
RiverRun will have a Team Theme Competition, where prizes will be awarded to the top three teams who dress in a costume best related to their team's name. Other competitions and events include a 5K Team Competition, Children's 50-Yard Hawkeye Hustle, Runner Awards and a Fitness Fair from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the IMU River Terrace. 4 p.m.: The Jumbles
5 p.m.: These Little Nothings
6 p.m.: Jim the Mule
7 p.m.: Fileo
8:30 p.m.: The Critical Hour
7:30 to 10:30 p.m.: ballroom dance to benefit Habitat for Humanity, IMU second-floor ballroom.
Prizes will be raffled off between each performance with the grand prize of two Fall Out Boy concert tickets, courtesy of Z102.9 radio, being given away during The Critical Hour's performance Saturday evening.
