Provost Will Speak On Challenges In Spring Address April 26

University of Iowa Executive Vice President and Provost Michael J. Hogan will deliver his annual Spring Address to the university community at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, April 26, in the Old Capitol Senate Chamber.

"We've had some ups and downs this year," Hogan says. "I think it's timely to reflect on the substantial progress we've made on several fronts, in spite of immense challenges, and to look at the opportunities for continued progress now before us."

Last year's address focused on the changing landscape of higher education and the demands those changes are placing on the University.

This year, in his address "From 'the Sticks' to the Stars: The Iowa Way," Hogan will describe some of the ways the UI has risen to address those challenges and new ones -- such as relationships put to the test by the stalled presidential search -- over the past year, and the positive outcomes the UI is now realizing as a result.

Hogan will also discuss emerging opportunities and how the UI is strategically aligning itself to take advantage of them. "We deserve to congratulate ourselves for making it through a difficult year in excellent shape," Hogan says. "But we can't take our eye off the ball. We still have work to do, and we must continue to look for opportunities to make our great university even better."

Faculty, staff, students and interested members of the community are invited to attend the event, which is sponsored this year by the UI Faculty Senate. A reception in the Old Capitol will follow immediately after Provost Hogan's remarks.
