School Of Music Collage Concerts, April 14 And 15, Will Be Free

The University of Iowa School of Music has decided to give a present to the community, in honor of its own birthday.

The School's Collage Concerts -- at 8 p.m. Saturday, April 14, and 2 p.m. Sunday, April 15, in Hancher Auditorium -- will be presented as free events, without charge and without tickets. They are the final events of the school's yearlong celebration of its 100th anniversary.

"The School of Music has tremendous support from the community, not just in our centennial year, but year in and year out," said Kristin Thelander, the director of the School of Music. "We decided that we should honor that community support with a little gift of our own, by making this very special concert that features the entire breadth of the School of Music in one fast-paced, gala event, open to everyone.

"It will be a joyful performance, and a joyful end to our year of celebration," she said.

The Collage concerts will present a variety of soloists and groups performing non-stop in each half of the program. Performances will range from jazz to classical solos and chamber music and large ensembles. Each concert will culminate with a gala performance of Tchaikovsky's "1812 Overture," featuring the symphony orchestra, choirs, symphony band and percussion ensemble.

More, including the full program for each performance can be found at

The concerts were originally advertised as ticketed events. Hancher box office will contact all ticket holders and offer a full refund.
