'Global Express' Puts IWP Writing On Stage, Oct. 14
The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts and the UI International Writing Program (IWP) will present "Global Express," an evening of staged readings of works by current participants in the IWP, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 in Theatre B of the UI Theatre Building.
The free production is organized and directed by playwright Maggie Conroy, an alumna of the theater department's Iowa Playwrights Workshop.
The readings -- each of which will be no more than 10 minutes long -- will feature poems, short stories and plays, including works not originally intended for theatrical production.
"Global Express," now in its sixth edition, has become an annual opportunity for playwrights in the IWP to present their work and for non-playwrights to have their writing staged in a theatrical format.
The Department of Theatre Arts is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
Twenty-nine writers, representing 22 countries, are in residence this fall at the IWP. Biographies of all the writers are accessible on the IWP website, www.uiowa.edu/~iwp.
