KHAK Radiothon Benefits Children's Hospital of Iowa

The 10th annual radiothon broadcast by KHAK-FM in Cedar Rapids raised $185,006 from listeners to support patients and their families at Children's Hospital of Iowa and Children's Miracle Network.

The broadcast team of the Brain and Bob James reported live from the atrium lobby on the first level of University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City Sept. 12-15.

Proceeds of the 98-hour event will benefit patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City and its outreach clinics. Donations to the radiothon remain in the local region to benefit critically ill and injured children. More than 140,000 children receive care at Children's Hospital of Iowa each year.

"As always, we stand in awe of the generosity of our listeners and their commitment to patients and families at Children's Hospital of Iowa," James said. "The stories of these kids and the care they received from the professionals here obviously touched all of them, and us, on a very profound level."

The KHAK-FM crew shared the stories of former and current patients of Children's Hospital of Iowa and the dedicated physicians, nurses and other health care professionals who care for them.

"We care for thousands of children from eastern Iowa each year, and the generosity of KHAK staff and their listeners helps us carry on that important work," said Michael Artman, M.D., physician-in-chief at Children's Hospital of Iowa. "I am impressed by their dedication, and all of us are grateful for their commitment."
