Museum Of Natural History Hosts Archaeology Open House Oct. 19

The University of Iowa Museum of Natural History will celebrate Iowa Archaeology Month 2006 Oct. 19 with an evening of activities about archaeology and the native cultures of Iowa.

At the free program from 6 to 8 p.m., visitors will be able to try their hand at prehistoric technologies such as flintknapping and ceramics. Museum staff will be on hand to lead guided tours of Iowa Hall, and children can listen to Native American stories about animals and the land.

Visitors are invited to bring local artifacts for identification, and learn how they can help preserve and protect the past.

For more information, please contact Sarah Horgen, museum education and outreach coordinator at 319-335-0606 or sarah-horgen@uiowa.edu.  For a complete list of Museum of Natural History programs, see http://www.uiowa.edu/~nathist/
