UI Undergraduate Directors' Festival Presents Pair Of One-Acts Oct. 19-22

The Undergraduate Directors' Festival will present a pair of dissimilar one-act plays -- "'Dentity Crisis" by Christopher Durang and "Kaleidoscope" by Ray Bradbury -- at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 19-21, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct 22, in Theatre B of the University of Iowa Theatre Building.

Durang's "'Dentity Crisis," directed by Heather Bodie, is a comedy that dissects the American family and psychoanalysis. Jane is a seemingly normal yet depressed young woman whose life is populated by bizarre characters -- including her mother Edith, who claimed she invented cheese, and her psychiatrist Mr. Sommers and his wife, who switch their genders back and forth.

"Kaleidoscope," directed by Patrick Ashcraft, chronicles the lives of six astronauts suspended in space after their rocket explodes mid-flight. As they muse upon life and their relationships, each astronaut struggles to find a place in the universe as they start dying off.

Ashcraft comments, "What makes the night so intriguing is how vastly different the two plays are!"

The Undergraduate Directors' Festival is supervised by Department of Theatre Arts Chair Alan MacVey, who has been mentoring both directors.

Tickets are $6 ($4 for UI students) and will be available at the door one hour before curtain time. For more information please visit <www.uiowa.edu/~theatre>.

The Department of Theatre Arts is a unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
