Student Choreography Will Be Shown At UI Dance Concert Nov. 30 To Dec. 2
The University of Iowa Department of Dance will present a concert featuring new choreography by undergraduate and graduate students at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 30 to Dec. 2, in the newly renovated Space/Place Theatre of UI North Hall. Tickets are $12 (UI student $6; Free admission for children under 12).
Works on the Graduate/Undergraduate Concert are chosen by a panel of three faculty adjudicators from an informal presentation of works created by the students throughout the semester.
"The adjudication process illustrates the mission of the dance department, which is to promote artistic and creative freedom and to provide educational guidance," faculty member and adjudicator Armando Duarte said. "It is fascinating to be able to follow each student's creative process, and it is a very challenging task to choose only a few."
The Graduate/Undergraduate Concert includes 10 works, five created by graduate students and five by undergraduates. The varied program includes styles from modern to contemporary ballet, the use of spoken text and a diversity of music. The concert also includes solos, duets and large ensembles.
Choreographic works include:
-- "Static Flowing Static Screaming Static?" choreographed by Rachel Hilman;
-- "Duel Responsibilities" by Amy Jacobus and Vladimir CondeReche;
-- "Inverted Indulgence" by Nicole Hussain;
-- "La Rifleccione disponibilita" by Mary Suzanne Ryan-Strati;
