Iowa City Hospice Featured On Nov. 17 'Talk of Iowa' Program

On the Nov. 17 edition of "Talk of Iowa Live from the Java House" Iowa City resident Chuck Denniger will share the role the Iowa City Hospice played when his wife, Drina, was dying in 2004, and now as he faces terminal lung cancer.

The program, hosted by Ben Kieffer, is broadcast live at 10 a.m. Fridays from the Java House, 211 E. Washington St. in Iowa City and can be heard on the University of Iowa Station WSUI AM 910. The public is invited to join the audience for the program.

Singer-songwriter Patrick Bloom will perform live music on the program. Bloom, has collaborated with several Midwest artists as session musician, and/or behind the studio board as a producer/engineer. His album "(Songs From) The Pink Sofa," his solo debut on Trailer Records.

This show is in recognition of National Hospice Month. Accompanying Denniger will be Iowa City Hospice grief counselor Pat Ryan. Iowa City Hospice, Inc. is a community-based nonprofit organization formed in 1979 when a group of community members formed a task force to bring the concept of hospice, a program for the terminally ill and their families, to the residents of Johnson County. After four years of volunteer efforts and widespread community support, ICH provided care to their first patient in March of 1983.

"Talk of Iowa Live from the Java House" offers an eclectic variety of topics and guests for its listeners. The show is broadcast live statewide to an estimated 30,000 listeners each week on Iowa Public Radio stations WSUI AM 910 Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, WOI AM 640 Ames/Des Moines, KTPR-FM 91.1 Fort Dodge, KOWI-FM 97.9 Lamoni and KWOI-FM 90.7 Carroll. The broadcast can also be heard in streaming audio at http://wsui.uiowa.edu by clicking on "Listen to WSUI"; it is rebroadcast on WSUI at 10 p.m. Fridays. It is also broadcast several days later on cable TV over UITV in the Iowa City and Cedar Rapids area.
