Local Student Serves With UI Dance Marathon Leadership Team

(Student name), of (hometown) is currently serving as (position name) for the 2007 University of Iowa Dance Marathon. (Description of executive position, if applicable).

Now in its 13th year, the mission of the UI Dance Marathon is to create special projects that provide emotional and financial support to families treated at Children's Hospital of Iowa at UI Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, with an emphasis on the Division of Hematology/Oncology.

The annual marathon event, held in February, raises funds through corporate donations, in-kind gifts and independent donors. Dancers remain on their feet without caffeine for the entire 24 hours, dancing the night away.

Over the past dozen years, the UI Dance Marathon has raised more than $4.5 million. The 2006 event broke records by raising more than $686,000 and sponsoring more than 300 families with the help of more than 700 dancers and 350 volunteers. Affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network, the UI Dance Marathon is the largest student-run philanthropy in the United States and the largest Children's Miracle Network-associated Dance Marathon worldwide.

The 2007 UI Dance Marathon will be held Feb. 2-3 at the Iowa Memorial Union on the UI campus in Iowa City. If you are interested in helping support area leadership team members and Children's Hospital of Iowa, consider giving online at http://www.uiowa.edu/~dancemar/event/donate.htm. Donations are 100 percent tax deductible and have helped purchase wigs, toys and electronics for children, gifts for holidays and birthdays, and a namesake bone marrow transplant wing at the hospital.
