STAR 102.5 Radiothon Supports Children's Hospital Of Iowa

STAR 102.5 of Des Moines raised $205,521 during its live marathon broadcast from Children's Hospital of Iowa at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City during the station's eighth annual Star 102.5 Radiothon May 24-26.

The special event originated in the atrium lobby on the first level of the state's only comprehensive academic medical center. The STAR 102.5 broadcast team shared the stories of patients, parents and staff at Children's Hospital of Iowa.

"We are very grateful to our listeners for their generous support of the Children's Hospital of Iowa," said Bill Wells, STAR 102.5 vice president and general manager. "We called upon them to help children and their families, and they came through in a very big way."

Colleen Kelly, STAR 102.5 morning host, helped lead the radiothon team. "Every time I think that this experience can't possibly become more emotional and inspirational, these kids and parents just prove me wrong," Kelly said. "Their grace and strength is truly incredible."

Schools, businesses and individuals made donations during the three-day event. Radiothon proceeds help create new programs for children and support ongoing research, enhancements to patient stays through services such as pain management and patient education.
