UI College of Pharmacy Students Honored

Twenty-two University of Iowa College of Pharmacy students were honored at the college's annual Senior and Alumni Dinner and Awards Banquet May 10 at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Conference Center in Coralville.

Following are the names of the student award recipients, including a description of the award.

Jennifer Jepsen

APHA-ASP Mortar and Pestle Professionalism Award - Presented to a student who exhibits the ideals of professionalism and excellence in patient care. The award is sponsored by McNeil Consumer Healthcare. The recipient receives a hand-turned wooden replica of an early American mortar and pestle.

Mikel Brandhorst

College of Pharmacy Faculty Excellence Award - A $250 award that goes to the senior student with the highest grade point average.

Michelle O Connor

College of Pharmacy Faculty Award - A $200 award that goes to the student that the second highest grade point average.

Rachel Jackson, Sara Morio, Laura Uthe, Jennifer Wood

College of Pharmacy Achievement Award - Presented for excellence in pharmacy studies.

Ashley Dohrn, Stevie Hudrlik, Jessica Purcell

College of Pharmacy Excellence in Clinical Practice Award - Given to graduating seniors who excel in clinical practice.

Gatlauk Wakow

Dean's Achievement Award - Presented to a UI graduating senior who exemplifies, promotes or contributes to cultural, racial or ethnic diversity. The recipient receives a certificate at the Multicultural Graduation and Recognition Banquet.

Melissa Storck

Facts and Comparisons Award - Presented to a senior student who is in top 25 percent of his/her class academically and who has demonstrated superior verbal and writing skills. 

Theresa Vavra

GlaxoSmithKline Award - Given for demonstrated excellence in patient relations in hospital and community practice. 

Jill Mastascusa

James W. Jones Memorial Award - A $50 award that goes to a senior with a grade point of 2.50 or better, and who shows definite potential as a community pharmacist. 

Kelly White

Lilly Achievement Award - Given to a senior who has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills. 

Adam Freiburger, Kristina Beacom

Merck Prize - Given to a senior who has attained high scholastic standing and/or committee choice.

Janice Worsham

Mylan Pharmaceuticals Award - Presented to a senior who demonstrates high professional motivation and ranks in upper 20 percent of the graduating class.

Jillian Hernan

Perrigo Company Award for Excellence in Nonprescription Studies - A $200 award given to a student who has demonstrated excellent studies in subjects dealing with non-prescription medications.

Elizabeth Brown

Roche Pharmacy Communications Award - Given to the senior who promotes communications with patients.

Laura McGonegle

TEVA Company Award - A $200 award given to a senior who excels in the study of pharmacy.

Jessica Purcell

United States Public Health Award - Recognizes pharmacy students who have made significant contributions to public health pharmacy practice. The award was presented by Captain Jim Imholte from the United States Public Service Corp.
