UI Group Invites Filmmakers To Join Race
Iowa City Microcinema invites Eastern Iowans to take part in "Shoot Your Own Adventure" -- The 2nd Annual Documentary Video Race starting Friday, April 7 at 5 p.m.
IC Microcinema is a group of UI students and Iowa City filmmakers dedicated to promoting the instruction, production and screening of independently produced, adventurous and thoughtful short films in an effort to build and fortify an inclusive community of active filmgoers and filmmakers.
The video race is free and open to anyone with a video camera, from beginning to experienced filmmakers, and collaborative groups are highly encouraged. Participants may register by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org by April 6. Complete rules and details are available at http://www.icmicrocinema.com/.
Participating filmmakers will spend the week of April 7-15 creating a four-minute documentary on any subject of their choosing. Everything from serious community issues to goofy stories about a neighbor's pet dog to poetic musings on rural life are fair game, as long as they stay within the realm of nonfiction. However, participants must include four special documentary elements in their movie, which will be revealed at 5 p.m. Friday, April 7, online at http://www.icmicrocinema.com. Elements could include a camera technique, a location, an object that must appear somewhere in the video, or some other mysterious filmmaking feature. Participants then have one week to plan, shoot and edit a four-minute documentary that incorporates those elements.
Completed videos are due on Saturday, April 15, at noon, and all works will be shown that day at 4 p.m. as part of the final day of screenings at the Iowa City Documentary Festival at the Englert Theater.
