Local Students Attend Piano Camp At University Of Iowa
Fifteen talented piano students from Iowa, Florida and New York are participating in the All-State Music Camp piano program June 18-23 at the University of Iowa School of Music.
The students in the camp will present a free public concert/demonstration at the end of the week's activities, at 7 p.m. Friday, June 23, in Harper Hall of the UI Voxman Music Building.

Teachers at the camp are UI School of Music faculty members Alan Huckleberry and Rene Lecuona. They will participate in the Piano Camp Faculty Recital at 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, in Clapp Recital Hall. This concert is free and open to the public.
Campers will be exposed to a wide variety of piano-related topics in a fun and non-competitive atmosphere. Instruction will include daily piano lessons with Huckleberry and Lecuona, as well as classes in music theory and piano literature. Another highlight will be a course in music technology and composition using the School of Music's new state-of-the-art Roland computerized keyboard lab. Special events will include sessions on piano technology and harpsichord playing.
The All-State Music Camp is sponsored by the UI School of Music and directed by Kevin Kastens, who also directs the UI Hawkeye Marching Band. It offers a variety of musical experiences for talented young musicians who have completed grades 8-12. All participants were recommended by their school music teachers.
The School of Music is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
