IMU Closed July 3 For Utility Installation
The University of Iowa's Iowa Memorial Union will be closed Monday, July 3, as part of the facility's ongoing renovation. Workers will be completing water, electrical and gas hook-ups so the building will be without utilities that day, said David Grady, associate vice president and director of University Life Centers.
Food service satellites operated by IMU Food Services located in other UI buildings will be open on July 3. The Iowa House Hotel will remain open, though checkout time will be moved to 9 a.m. and check-in will begin at 5 p.m. The Office of the Vice President for Student Services, which is located in the IMU, will also close on July 3, but voice mail will be checked periodically through the day and calls returned.
The IMU will close at the end of regular hours on Saturday, July 1, and remain closed on Sunday, July 2. The building will also be closed Tuesday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday and resume normal operating hours on Wednesday, July 5.
The IMU is in the midst of a $9.9 million renovation that will create a more inviting, functional and attractive union for the university, as well as add 13,000 square feet of additional student activity space. Renovations are expected to be completed in December.
