July 12 Golf Tournament Will Support Vision/Hearing Programs

Amateur golfers are invited to play in a Lions Club of Iowa golf tournament July 12 at the University of Iowa Finkbine Golf Course. The event will raise funds for hearing and vision programs in Iowa, including programs involving the UI Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

The event, which will feature the new UI wrestling coach, Tom Brands, is part of a statewide tour sponsored by Lions Clubs of Iowa.

Programs funded include the Iowa Lions Eye Bank, which helps restore sight to Iowa's blind and visually impaired through corneal transplantation, and "Coming to Your Senses," which provides early screening of vision for preschool children. Both programs are supported by partnerships between the Lions of Iowa and the UI Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences.

The tournament will be supervised by Iowa Section PGA professionals and managed by Lou King and Associates. The tournament will be played under a "scramble" format, which allows players of all skill levels to participate.

Golfers will be eligible to win a car for a hole-in-one shot and will have opportunities to win other prizes. Golfers also will receive lunches from Hy-Vee in Coralville and gift bags for their participation.

The tournament entry fee is $125 per player (a substantial portion of this fee will be tax-deductible). Hole sponsorship is available for $1,000, which includes a foursome's entry fee.

Registration and lunch will be held from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 12. For more information or to enter the Finkbine tournament, contact Jane Duvall at 319-325-1374 or jane_duvall2003@yahoo.com
