The All-State Music Camp offers students musical training and experience beyond that available in their home schools, including group instruction, master classes and classroom instruction in most phases of instrumental music. The camp also offers a taste of life on a major university campus. The camp is organized by the band department in the UI School of Music, and the camp director is Kevin Kastens, conductor of the Hawkeye Marching Band.

This year the camp is offered in three sessions: band, orchestra and adult band June 11-17; percussion and piano June 18-23; and jazz ensembles June 25-July 1, in conjunction with the Iowa City Jazz Festival.

In addition to UI faculty members William LaRue Jones, Don Coffman, Dan Moore, James Dreier, Alan Huckleberry, Rene Lecuona and Brent Sandy, camp faculty includes Thomas Leslie, director of bands at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas; John New of the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional Schools in Massachusetts; Nashville recording artist Mat Britain; Yamaha Sounds of Summer clinician Jim Campbell of the University of Kentucky; and jazz artists Paul Scea, Rich Medd, Steve Grismore, Evan Mazunik and Robin Eubanks.

The School of Music is part of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
