Registration Under Way For UI Homecoming Reunion 2006

University of Iowa alumni are invited to celebrate the newly renovated Kinnick Stadium during the 2006 Homecoming Reunion Oct. 6 to Oct. 7. The weekend's activities are sure to bring back memories of great times at the UI.

Registration has begun for the celebration, sponsored by the University of Iowa Alumni Association (UIAA) and several UI colleges. Registration is available at www.iowalum.com/reunions/hrw; the deadline is Sept. 29.

Homecoming Reunion honors those who graduated from the UI 10, 20 and 25 years ago, as well as the College of Law Classes of 2001, 1996, 1986, 1981 and 1976; Carver College of Medicine Classes of 2001, 1996, 1986, 1981, 1976 and 1971; Carver College of Medicine Iowa Minority Medical Alumni; Carver College of Medicine Residents and Fellows who completed training in 1982, 1981 and 1980; Office of Admissions Orientation Services Student Advisers and Staff from 1987 and 1986.

The UI Alumni Association welcomes the Alumni Band back to campus for Homecoming 2006. Past members of the Hawkeye Marching band return to campus to march in the Homecoming Parade and perform in the pre-game show at the Iowa vs. Purdue football game. The UI Homecoming Executive Council and the UI Alumni Association are inviting past Homecoming Kings and Queens to serve as honored guests in this year's Homecoming Parade. Former Homecoming Queens or Kings who would like to participate in this year's festivities can contact the Alumni Association by Friday, Sept. 29, at 800-IOWALUM (469-2586) or by e-mail at alumni-reunions@uiowa.edu.

Reunion attendees are invited to participate in UI Homecoming activities beginning Monday, Oct. 2, with a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Second Floor Ballroom of the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU). The homecoming parade begins at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, in downtown Iowa City. Following the parade, alumni will gather with UI students for the homecoming pep rally and concert.

On Saturday, Oct. 7, the Hawkeyes take on Purdue at 11:05 a.m. for the homecoming game.

The Alumni Association tailgate is scheduled two hours prior to kickoff. Several UI colleges will be hosting tailgates and dinners throughout the weekend. For a complete list of events visit www.iowalum.com/reunions/hrw.

Other Homecoming activities include:

--Havoc at Hubbard, Tuesday, Oct. 3, from noon to 5 p.m. at Hubbard Park. Campus organizations will compete in this spirited outdoor sports competition.

--Sports Night, Wednesday, Oct. 4, from 6 to 9 p.m. at the UI Athletics Hall of Fame. Alumni and their families can meet current UI athletes and relive Hawkeye sports history.        

--Iowa Shout, Thursday, Oct. 5, from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the IMU. Student groups will create entertaining music and dance skits for this Homecoming tradition.
