Ten-Minute Play Festival Spotlights Undergraduate Playwrights
The University of Iowa Department of Theatre Arts will present the 2006 edition of the annual Ten-Minute Play Festival, a production that features the work of undergraduate playwrights, at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 2-4, and at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, in Theatre B of the UI Theatre Building.
The Ten-Minute Play Festival gives undergraduate playwrights one of their first opportunities to experience the collaborative and creative efforts needed to produce a play.
The production, selected from among 55 submissions, will feature:
-- "Voices Below" by Diana Grisanti:
-- "That's What Lovers Do" by Kyle Harpole;
-- "Control" by Rachel Howell;
-- "The Spring" by Jenna Lassen;
-- "All in a Day's Work" by Jon Kommes;
-- "Iphigenia in the Fog" by Justine Nakase;
-- "Manifest Domesticity" by Jon Plumley; and
-- "Bagel Club" by Alisa Rosenthal.
The artistic director -- and founder -- of the festival is faculty member Kate Aspengren, an alumna of the Iowa Playwrights Workshop whose published plays are performed throughout the country.
Admission will be $6 ($4 for students, seniors and youth) at the door. Tickets will go on sale one hour before curtain time.
Some of the plays contain material of an adult nature. Potential audience members who are concerned about whether the production is appropriate for them should contact the Department of Theatre Arts -- 319-335-2700 -- for additional information.
The Department of Theatre Arts is an academic unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
