Skorton To Discuss Condition Of UI To Service Groups
University of Iowa President David Skorton will give the annual "condition of the university" speech to a joint meeting of Iowa City service clubs at noon Thursday, Jan. 19, in the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Iowa City.
Skorton will discuss diversity at the university, in the greater local community, and in higher education in general. The annual speech by the UI president is a long-standing Iowa City tradition and is designed to strengthen the "town-gown" relationship between the university and the surrounding communities, including Iowa City, Coralville, North Liberty, Clear Creek and Solon.
Local service clubs participating in the event are: Altrusa Club of Iowa City; ABWA Golden Hawks and Grant Wood chapter; Business and Professional Women of Iowa City; Eastside, Golden K, Noon, Old Capitol and Coralville Hawkeye Kiwanis clubs; the Noon, Host Noon, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics and Evening Lions clubs of Iowa City; The Optimist, Noon Optimist and Sunrise Optimist clubs of Iowa City; Morning and Noon Coralville Optimist clubs; Optimist clubs of Clear Creek/Amana, North Liberty and Solon; the Pilot Club of Iowa City; Iowa City A.M. and Noon Rotary clubs and the Rotary Club of Coralville/North Corridor; and the Old Capitol and University of Iowa Sertoma clubs.
