Public Invited To Aug. 24 Community Forum On Palliative Care
The public is invited to attend a community forum on palliative care from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, in Room A of the Iowa City Public Library, 123 S. Linn St.
David Weissman, M.D., professor of internal medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin and the director of the college's Palliative Care Center, will discuss this newly approved medical subspecialty, which focuses on helping patients and families maximize quality of life during a serious medical illness.
The forum will review how palliative care is being integrated into mainstream medicine and provide information on the role of health care professionals. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion by the audience.
The event is sponsored by the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the UI, the UI Center on Aging and the Cancer and Aging Program (supported by a grant from the National Cancer Institute and the National Institute on Aging).
