Museum Fest Welcomes Students To Pentacrest Museums Aug. 25 After Class
University of Iowa students criss-crossing the Pentacrest on their way to classes each day may not have time to stop and smell the roses--or see the museums. So as part of Welcome Week, the Old Capitol Museum and the Museum of Natural History will host Museum Fest Friday, Aug. 25, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., staying open late to encourage students to stop in and see the collections. The event will also feature lawn sports, lemonade and food.
The celebration is organized by the Campus Museum Collective, a new student group that hopes to boost student interest and involvement in museum activities. For the first time in five years the Old Capitol and the Old Capitol Museum are open for the start of a new school year, having re-opened in May following extensive repair and restoration after a November 2001 fire.
Museum Fest is co-sponsored by the UI Museum Studies Program, Museum of Natural History, and Old Capital Museum.
