Traffic Control Plan In Effect For IMU Area Aug. 21-25
The University of Iowa Department of Public Safety has announced a traffic control plan for the streets around the Iowa Memorial Union (IMU) Aug. 21-25 from 3 to 5:30 p.m. daily. The plan was developed to control the traditional increase in vehicular and pedestrian traffic during the first week of classes and to ensure all members of the UI community safely navigate the area.
The traffic control plan will affect the following streets.
-- At the intersection of Madison Street and Jefferson Street, all traffic northbound on Madison Street will be routed east on Jefferson Street. To reach the IMU Parking Ramp and/or North Campus Ramp, vehicles will have to detour east on Jefferson Street, north on Clinton Street, west on Market Street and south or north on Madison Street to access the ramps.
-- Traffic southbound on Madison Street will be allowed to turn west from the right hand lane into the access area south of the IMU and turn east from the left-hand lane onto Jefferson Street.
Madison Street/Jefferson Street bus stop
-- Cambus will temporarily close the bus stop at Madison Street and Jefferson Street each day between 3 and 5:30 p.m. Cambus will post signs notifying the public that the stop is temporarily closed.
Officers and student guards will be controlling vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the affected intersections.
