Fusion Of Electronic Music And Intermedia Art Will Be May 12 At UI

The University of Iowa School of Art and Art History intermedia and video art program and the School of Music Electronic Music Studios will present "Spatial Intersections III," a fusion of electronic music and intermedia art, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, in the UI Museum of Art (UIMA).

"Spatial Intersections III" is free and open to the public. Students in the UI departments presenting the performance will be featured in the program.

The program's coordinator, UI composition student Tohm Judson, said artists and musicians will use visual and sonic experiences to "stimulate the audience" through video, surround sound and realtime performance.

The UI intermedia and video art program, founded in 1968, is devoted to experimental and interdisciplinary art forms. Since its creation, the program has become nationally and internationally recognized as a model for the nurturance of the experimental arts within a university environment.

Director of the Intermedia area is Jon Winet. More information is available at www.art.uiowa.edu/depts.php?dept=Intermedia.

The Electronic Music Studios have been part of the composition program at the UI School of Music for more than 30 years. By offering a traditional emphasis on the compositional aspects of electronic media, the studios have helped prepare UI graduates for composing, research and teaching careers at colleges and universities throughout the United States.

The director of the Electronic Music Studios is Lawrence Fritts. More information is available at http://theremin.music.uiowa.edu.

The School of Art and Art History www.uiowa.edu/~art/ and the School of Music www.uiowa.edu/~music/ are academic units of the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
