Statement By UI President Skorton, Interim President Fethke
As he leaves The University of Iowa for a tremendous new opportunity at Stanford, Bob Bowlsby has our deepest appreciation, affection and regard. We thank him for all that he has done to help make our athletics programs among the best in nation. He has worked hard, intelligently and honorably.
Bob and the entire UI athletics department have taken the highest ideals of collegiate athletics -- education, integrity, fiscal responsibility and innovation -- and made them real. He always emphasized the overall wellbeing of our student-athletes, pushing for their success in the classroom and in their lives as well as on the playing fields. But the fans were a close second, and during Bob's tenure, their avid support of the Hawkeyes has been rewarded with exciting, competitive teams that have made us proud to wear the black and gold.
Bob leaves behind a highly regarded and well-managed program that will help us recruit another outstanding leader. He is a rare combination of a visionary leader and a detail-oriented manager. He combined a respect for our traditions, a keen eye for business details and an entrepreneurial spirit. It is fitting that this level of accomplishment has brought Bob a national reputation as a leader in collegiate athletics, and that reputation reflected well on the University of Iowa.
We wish Bob and Candace and their family all the best as they pursue this wonderful opportunity.
