UI Arts Share Program Receives Grant From Alliant Energy Foundation
The University of Iowa Arts Share program has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Alliant Energy Foundation as part of its "Alliant Energy Access to the Arts Project."
The grant, which extends a successful nine-year partnership between Arts Share and Alliant Energy, will pay half the cost of a variety of arts outreach events -- including workshops, performances and residencies -- in the Alliant Energy service area.
The goal of Arts Share is to strengthen the arts in underserved areas and to provide access to life-enriching arts experiences throughout Iowa -- a goal in perfect synch with the UI Year of Public Engagement.
To serve that goal, Arts Share makes artists available in music, theater, dance, the visual arts and creative writing. The available activities range from workshops to ensemble coaching to concerts to lectures -- and even special, custom-designed projects.
The program also sponsors a variety of on-campus performances available to school groups from throughout the region.
The 2005-06 Arts Share roster includes more than 100 individual artists and ensembles, with options to fit a variety of needs and budgets. Many schools have scheduled several Arts Share artists to create a concentrated arts day, or have engaged an artist to make multiple visits, enabling their guidance of long-term projects.
The Alliant Energy Foundation is a philanthropic organization created by Alliant Energy Corporation and is operated as a separate entity led by its own board of directors. The foundation is committed to making a positive difference in the communities where Alliant Energy employees, retirees and customers live and work. The foundation is funded solely by Alliant Energy shareowners and seeks to further the corporation's goal of being a good corporate citizen and contributing member of society.
Arts Share is a unit of the Division of Performing Arts in the UI College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.
