Expected Deadline For Investigation Is Extended
The investigation into concerns that members of the Iowa Hawkeye football team may have received preferential treatment from an employee of a local cell phone services provider will be extended until approximately May 15.
"The Office of the General Counsel and the Athletics Department have completed much of the investigation, but some aspects are still pending," said President David Skorton, who, together with Athletics Director Robert Bowlsby, requested the investigation on March 23, and asked that it be completed within 30 days. "Some additional time will be necessary to examine some remaining aspects of the investigation," he said. "Barring any unforeseen developments, I'm anticipating that the report will be on my desk by about May 15."
The university is investigating whether football players received preferential treatment from an employee of an area cell phone services provider, perhaps in exchange for tickets to the 2006 Outback Bowl.
