UICHR, Iowa UN Sponsor Forum April 20 On Responses To AIDS

A film screening and discussion forum tackling the issue of AIDS and the response to it around the world will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in room W401 Pappajohn Business Building.

The screening will consist of clips from the current PBS series, "Rx for Survival." There will also be a student speaker, Andy McDowell, to talk about his experience in India during an internship with a non-governmental organization (NGO).

During his internship, McDowell worked with rural communities to improve the standard of life and to promote cereal grains that helped to serve as a better source of iron and protein in the diet of the population. He also worked with farmers to improve diet as well as farming practices and spent time talking to people about medical decision-making.

The film clips will focus on the AIDS crisis in Thailand and Botswana and the ways locals from each of those countries is trying to control the AIDS epidemic in their areas.
